Das boot (1981)

"He asks the young war correspondent who is travelling with them, Lt. Werner (Herbert Groenemeyer) not to snap pictures of them now, because it would shame the British to see that the people sinking their ships are mere beardless boys, who should still be at their mothers? breasts. They make him feel old, the captain confides. He feels as if he is leading a children's crusade."

"You know - we've had to imagine the war here, and we have imagined that it was being fought by aging men like ourselves. We had forgotten that the wars were fought by babies. When I saw those freshly shaved faces, it was a shock. "My God, my God - " I said to myself, "it's the Children's Crusade."' (from Slaughterhouse Five, Kurt Vonnegut)

Ondskan (2006)

Watch this movie and think about the Scandinavian Jante Law (Don't think you're anyone special or that you're better than us) and their social-democracy, in the domestic violence that is not their exclusivity. Think about bullying in board schools, the Fight Club movie and about how much a punch in the face hearts. If you wish, even think of The Who's Tommy rock opera... or just watch this movie and find out why this semi-biographical story is a popular book among young Scandinavians.

Away from her (2006)

I read that couple counsellors find that most of divorced women can emotionally cope with living alone in the long run while, most of divorced men find really hard to arrive to their empty house everyday. In this movie Grant and Fiona give us an idea of why is the above so in the special circumstance of aging and the corresponding loosing of ourselves. However, although Grant mourns Fiona's distance he show us why and how he loves her, letting me understand why director Sarah Polley has said that this is not a love story but THE love story. Polyamorous people might find here reflected the spirit of their own feelings.

Killer of Sheep (1977) (2007)
